Chattahoochee River

The Chattahoochee River Environmental Education Center with hiking trails and picnic area is located directly across Barnwell Road from the Olde Clubs Drive entrance to River Ridge.  Educational programs and events are hosted periodically by park staff and open to the public.

Less than a mile from River Ridge when traveling east on Barnwell Road, Jones Bridge Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area has boat and watercraft launches, hiking trails, picnic area, and restrooms. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, part of the National Park Service System, is spread over a 48-mile section of the Chattahoochee River from Lake Lanier Dam in Forsyth County to Peachtree Creek near downtown Atlanta. While Jones Bridge is the closest to River Ridge, there are a total of 16 different areas or units, five of which are located in or immediately adjacent to Johns Creek.

Public Parks

Newtown Park’s sprawling 46 acres is located near the intersection of Old Alabama and Jones Bridge Road.  With paved trails, artificial turf athletic fields, basketball and tennis/pickleball courts, playgrounds, picnic pavilions with grills, dedicated dog park, community garden, and more, this facility has something for the whole family.

Just north of the Chattahoochee River on Holcomb Bridge Road, Johns Creek Environmental Campus & Garrard Landing has a boat and watercraft launch, walking and bike paths, playgrounds, picnic pavilion with grill, and grassy fields.

Running & Riding Paths

With multiple access points a short drive north of River Ridge, road and mountain biking enthusiasts of all ages as well as runners and walkers enjoy the Big Creek Greenway.  Natural scenery, abundant shade, restrooms, exciting mountain trails, paved, level bike paths, and rentable adult leisure bikes make this a great local feature.
